Threatened and Protected Species Regulations -
to come into force on 1 February 2008

On the 20th of February 2007, Marthinus Van Schalkwyk, Minister of Environmental Affairs & Tourism, announced the new Threatened and Protected Species Regulations. After presentations by some Provincial MEC’s around challenges in implementing these regulations by 1 June 2007, the Minister has decided that these regulations will come into force on 1 February 2008.

TRADITIONAL LINE FISH AND HAKE HANDLINE VESSELS REQUIRED TO COMPLY WITH HAVING FUNCTIONAL VESSEL MONITORING SYSTEMS (VMS).Right holders in the Traditional Line Fish and Hake Handline sectors are advised that the period for applying for an exemption from the required permit conditions to have functional Vessel Monitoring Systems on board vessels in these sectors closed on 16 April 2007.

VESSEL MONITORING SYSTEM (VMS) INSTALATION DEADLINE REMINDER: 1 APRIL 2007
FOR TRADITIONAL LINE FISH AND HAKE HANDLINE SECTOR
Right holders in the Traditional Line Fish and Hake Handline sectors are advised that from 1 April 2007 all vessels involved in these fisheries must have functional Vessel Monitoring System installed as per requirement stipulated in the respective 2007 Permit Conditions.
